The Shenzhou’s Transporter Room Revealed!

Bold New Design Aesthetics

A short time ago, Entertainment Weekly released another one of their Discovery revelations: this time, the interior of “one of” the USS Shenzhou’s Transporter rooms!

After viewing the image, you can clearly see that this isn’t the same look or design as any of the previous transporters seen before on any incarnation of Trek.  The article is quick to point out that the USS Shenzhou and USS Discovery have other transporter rooms, so maybe we will see the “classic” styling yet!

Set Phasers to “Stunned”

Another interesting note is that both characters, Michelle Yeoh’s Captain Georgiou and Sonequa Martin-Green’s Commander Burnham, are wearing some type of body armor and sporting what looks like to be a phaser very reminiscent of the TOS models… (See the side holsters on both characters)

The article released by Entertainment Weekly also states that the USS Shenzhou is indeed an older ship than the USS Discovery.  That means it will have tech that looks more out-of-date and “retro” than the Discovery, and that the Discovery will have an entirely different look and feel than the Shenzhou.  The differences can be seen between this and the image of Captain Gabriel Lorca on the bridge of the Discovery, also recently released.

Also in the photo are Lt. Saru (portrayed by Doug Jones) and an unknown crew member, who appear to be operating a massive control panel stationed directly in front of the transporter.

Here’s the full image:

Where are the Captain and First Officer of the Shenzhou beaming to in all that armor? My bet would be that massive “Object of Unknown Origin” that seems to be some kind of Klingon ship. But, we will just have to wait until the premiere to find out…

Star Trek: Discovery premieres in September.
