Shenzhou at STLV
The Star Trek Las Vegas convention has begun ramping up. While we’ll need to wait until tomorrow for most show reveals, we’ve already learned a new detail about Star Trek Discovery.
In the upcoming series, our lead protagonist, Commander Michael Burnham (played by Sonequa Martin-Green), is serving aboard the USS Shenzhou. To now, not many details are known about this ship, or even if it will survive past the first few episodes. This, even though the Shenzhou is the ship being featured more than any other in both Discovery trailers.
Star Trek Discovery is set to primarily follow the adventures of the USS Discovery. However unlike most previous incarnations, Discovery is expected to focus around multiple ship crews instead of just one.
Walker Class
Today we learn, thanks to FanSets, that the USS Shenzhou is a “Walker Class” vessel.

“Walker” is a previously-unknown class of Starfleet vessel. They are one of just a few classes capable of flying within a planetary atmosphere. (You can learn more about what’s known of the USS Shenzhou on our profile page)
The USS Shenzhou is under the command of Captain Philippa Georgiou, who is being played by Michelle Yeoh.

It has been suggested that “Walker” may be a in honor of the X-15 pilot, Joe Walker, though this remains unconfirmed.
Star Trek Discovery starts airing September 24th on CBS All Access in the USA, Space and CraveTV in Canada, and on Netflix in the rest of the world.
