First Series Image
Today the world has it’s first peek into Star Trek Discovery. There’s undoubtedly going to be more news as the day progresses. CBS is doing their Upfronts 2017 today.
The “Upfronts” is an annual television industry event where all the major networks make announcements about their upcoming show in a bid to attain advertiser contracts.
Besides this image, we also learned that Captain Georgiou’s first name is Philippa. Another atypical name choice for a series character. “Michael Burnham”, Discovery‘s leading character, was also widely considered to be an unusual name for a woman when it was first announced a few weeks ago.
The setting of this image is unlikely to be Vulcan like initially though, though this is currently unconfirmed. Interestingly, the scene was filmed in Jordan, which goes to show the difference that the reported $6-$7 million per-episode budget will make.
We can see that the communicators in Discovery have more than a resemblance to those in The Original Series.
The tricorder is also similar to those seen in Star Trek: The Original Series.
Hints of Plot on Twitter
Yesterday, one of the writers on Star Trek Discovery posted a tweet that may have hinted at things to come. He suggested that there was a storm a brewing. Here’s the original tweet.
Ah, the calm before the ion storm…??⛈

Could this be some sort of ion storm or lightning in the background that the post was referring to?
