Star Trek: Discovery to Air Weekly on Cable TV in Canada

Canada to get Star Trek Discovery on cable tv

Canadian Star Trek Fans Rejoice!

Star Trek: Discovery is the first Star Trek television series to air since Enterprise ended over a decade ago.  The series is slated to be a streaming show on CBS All Access in the USA, CraveTV in Canada, and on Netflix in the rest of the world.

We’ve learned today that Canadian Star Trek fans will get the series both on CraveTV, Bell Media’s streaming service, and on Space Channel, Bell Media-owned cable channel.

Space Channel responded to us today stating that Star Trek: Discovery will air weekly at 8:00pm Eastern / 5pm Pacific every Sunday.  We have reached out to them via Twitter to inquire about a repeat of the show later in the day.  Space Channel often replays their new shows twice in a 24 hour period so that all 6 time zones in Canada have access to the time slots.  We did not hear back from them by the time of this writing but will be sure to update it once we have.

Premiere on Space, CTV, and CraveTV

The premiere episode of Discovery will air on Space and CTV channels at 8:30pm Eastern / 5:30pm Pacific this Sunday September 24th, and then on CraveTV streaming service on September 25th at 8:30pm Eastern.

Set 10 years before Star Trek: The Original Series, Star Trek: Discovery follows the voyages of Starfleet on their missions of discovering new worlds and new life forms, and one Starfleet officer who must learn that to truly understand all things alien, you must first understand yourself.

The series features new ships and new characters while embracing the same ideology and hope for the future that inspired a generation of dreamers and doers.

I was at the ST: Discovery panel at FanExpo a couple of weeks back. The cast and producer/writer Ted Sullivan were very enthused about the show and proud of their work on it, and their positivity was very infectious. Anthony Rapp in particular was really obviously over the moon about being on a show he loves very dearly. I really admire how Sullivan showed off his Star Trek nerd cred in his Twitter conversations with fans. Having seen what’s happened with other shows where the writers don’t have the background or emotional investment in the shows on which they worked, I can see how important it is to have those nerds at the helm, guiding the show with their genuine love and respect for the history and lore of Trek. The more I write about this, the more stoked I am for this Sunday!
