CBS announced in late April 2017 that Star Trek Original Series scoundrel Harry Mudd will be appearing in the upcoming Star Trek Discovery CBS All Access television series. The love-or-hate character is slated to be revised by none other than Rainn Wilson (The Office).
Star Trek Discovery takes place 10 years prior to the five year mission of Captain James T. Kirk and the crew of the USS Enterprise, making Harry Mudd a much younger man than when we first saw him. About 36 years old by our count, given his birth in 2219 on Antares Pi Four.
Lots of Time for Interstellar Mischief
While Harry Mudd only appeared in three episodes of The Original Series, one of those in The Animated Series, Wilson is set to appear as Mudd in nine episodes of Star Trek Discovery‘s first season. That’s right; nine.
Considering the amount of trouble Mudd caused the crew of the USS Enterprise in just three episodes, we can expect a lot of shenanigans in Discovery from him.
Star Trek Discovery is commissioned for 15 episodes in its first season. With Harry Mudd appearing in nine of those episodes, it’s debatable whether the character should be considered to be a recurring role or a series main character.
Just how Mudd will fit in to Discovery‘s first season story arc remains to be seen. There is also no word on whether the nine episodes will all appear consecutively, as an extended story, or if his appearances will be spread out across the season.
Star Trek Discovery airs this September 24th 2017 at 8:30pm ET on CBS & CBS All Access (USA), Space & CraveTV (Canada), and on September 25th on Netflix (rest of world).
